Our Instructors are Professionals
Our tail-dragger instructors have thousands of hours of experience. We are former Designated Pilot Examiners and Military Instructors with most fixed-wing privileges. Our cost-effective process is well known in the industry. Although this is an accelerated process, we endeavor to make it enjoyable and rewarding.
Together we will explore the fabulous valley and mountian vistas in the Sonoran desert region of Southern Arizona, from a unique perspective.
... Tailwheel Training and Endorsement ...
"Taildragger" aircraft typically require more training time for student pilots to master. A tailwheel endorsement is required to operate this configuration of aircraft. We will perform normal and crosswind takeoffs and landings, wheel landings, go-around procedures, slow flight, power-on and power-off stalls, steep turns, power-off 180-degree approaches, crosswinds, forward slips and incipient spins with recovery.
This is a 4-8 hour course, depending on your emerging individual tailwheel skills. We fly in our Piper Super Cub, Cessna 140 or your student-provided aircraft. This course includes one hour of ground training and 3 to 6, one-hour flights. We can often conduct this training in 1 day but some elect to do this over a 2-day period. Training can be conducted on both paved and unpaved surfaces using our Super Cub, Cessna 140 or your aircraft.
... Spin Training and Endorsement with UPRT ...
A spin endorsement is a requirement for all FAA Certified Flight instructors. Obtaining this in a tailwheel aircraft, especially our warbird, is unique.
UPRT Training (Upset Prevention and Recovery Training) is a requirement for all airline pilots and becoming very popular for general aviation pilots. From 2010 to 2014, loss of control in-flight represented approx. 30% of fatalities in airlines. UPRT was adopted to address this safety problem. UPRT is intended to provide initial experience of g-forces that could be encountered in aircraft, from approximately -1g to 2.5g, and to help a pilot gain angle-of-attack awareness. The psychological elements of the course include overcoming surprise and startle, developing counter-intuitive recovery skills, and developing self-confidence through upset recovery in a "real-world" environment.
