The tailwheel course is designed to take the student without any tailwheel experience and teach them the fundamentals of flying tailwheel.

Tailwheel airplanes, despite all the hype out there, don't fly differently per se. The most noticeable difference is on or close to the ground that different techniques are required. Consequently, not a lot of time is spent on air work, but we get right into take-offs and landings in different environmental and surface conditions.

The course is interesting and fun! Typically, we follow a  schedule with three or four 90 minute lessons, depending on your progress. The course is normally conducted over two days, but some students are able to achieve proficiency in just one day.

We normally meet at 0800 for breakfast and briefing at the Charlotte County airport. Then we get into the nitty-gritty. Ground handling a Taildragger, take-offs and landings, crosswind work and finally grass field operations. You'll be tired but exhilarated when we finish, and you get your logbook sign off.

We can start at 0700 for those early risers who appreciate the calm air of that time of day!

To prevent wear and tear on the airplane - and your instructor - this course is generally only offered once a week. Enroll now to ensure your spot!
